After the Rain

I have painted this view many times through the years, perched on the hill at Sugar Creek Winery.  After painting another view, framing, and turning it in, I turned my easel towards the Missouri River Bottoms once more.  A downpour had washed the landscape clean, and the whole landscape glistened. It has been an amazing day for painting and i can't wait to do it again tomorrow!  Painting number 5166 in 5166 days.

Morning at Montelle

It is a pleasure to paint such a beautiful vista, from the overlook at Montelle Winery, lined up with many of my artists friends.  We were welcomed with breakfast and sunshine - so the painting practically painted itself!  This place is stunning in all directions, and I'm so happy this painting has a new home, too.  Painting number 3765 in 3765 days.

Looking Over the Huzzah

SOLD

It has been another perfect painting day, with not a drop of rain though it was expected.  Part of our private estate paint in Davisville, Missouri, this overlook of the Huzzah River was magnificent!  Starting right at noon is never my favorite painting time for light, but with the cloudy day the light did not shift much.  I blocked in before lunch, and came back to add all the magic.  Sometimes a cloudy day offers a chance to really study the colors, finding beauty in the subtle changes.  Such a contemplative place to spend an afternoon.  I could paint this view for days.  Painting number 3069 in 3069 days.

View From Montelle

Oh what a glorious morning for painting at Montelle Winery!  After painting the vista in oil, I put my oil gear back in the car and started with ink.  Each piece of these handmade papers have a different feel, and the sizing is always different.  This paper was particularly crisp feeling, as if the sizing were heavier than normal.  For ink, this is not a problem, I just adjust how I lay the lines.  When floating on a little water, the ink moves readily, and I add a little more ink where needed.  This view has really opened up since the new owners bought this place.  Love seeing houses and ponds I've never seen before!  Painting number 3033 in 3033 days.

Morning at Montelle

What an amazing morning to paint at Montelle!  I arrived, intending to sketch in ink first.  When I saw this view and the stunning light, I knew I'd have to switch media!  It was fun to visit with everyone while painting enjoying the beautiful sunshine, cool breezes and this view!  So happy this painting has a new home! Moody Montelle Morning

Moody Montelle Morning
Oil on wood panel, 12x9
purchase here

Montelle Winery is situated high on a hill with a grand view of the countryside.  This year, a new spot has been cleared of a few trees, opening up a new scene begging to be painted!  With brush and knife, I am capturing the beauty of Montelle - and barely getting it finished before a hard rain moved in!  Painting number 847 in a row!
