Mules on the Field

The Quick Paint tonight was at the Train Yard - the Fairfield Mules were playing football, and I was painting as fast as I could.  The rain was coming, and I was protecting my panel from a few sprinkles.  Dark clouds, thunder and lightening approached as the remnants of Helene roared in.  What an amazing sunset unfolded, after the game was called, followed by increasing rain. That was a full rainbow over the high school in Fairfield!  I finished it and framed it in the rain, thrilled with the experience of it all.  Spencer loved painting here, and he would have loved this show in the sky. Perhaps he even had a hand in it.  I'm happy this painting has a new home, too!  Painting number 5175 in 5175 days. 

Caboose!

There are so many cool things to paint at the Belton train yard!  This caboose is pretty weathered, which only increases it's interest to me.  I have sketched out my lines with the Monteverde Monza fountain pen and then filled the color in with my WatercolorConfections half pan sets.  This little ATC sized painting will soon be available at the Belton Art Gallery.  Painting number 2125 in 2125 days.

Belton Train Yard

One never knows what a day will bring, and for that I am truly grateful.  Only a short post tonight as the real world knocks at my door.  Cherish your loved ones and give them an extra hug, life is an incredible gift.  Painting number 2104 in 2104 days.

Train Yard

I held my weekly painting class at the train yard tonight - and we did it at night!  I love the spontaneity and freshness that comes with plein air painting - and especially when it comes to nocturnes!  I did two ink drawings before returning to my original spot for capturing the light.  When standing at a distance on a night scene, I have to wait until it is pretty dark to see where the light lands. This train yard is complicated for an hour paint, so I concentrate on the light and the color of that light. I caught the deep blues in the sky before they faded to black.  I love painting at night!  Painting number 1638 in 1638 days.
