Running Kelce in Copper

 

Surprise!  Kelce in copper is on the "Chiefs Easel" today! It has been a while since I've picked up the metal supplies - and it is super fun!  I especially like that he is such a great guy - as are all of our hometown boys.  This is seriously a team all young kids can look up to, and I'm sending out positive vibes and kingdom love with each piece of art I create!  I hope we see plenty of this on Sunday!!  GO CHIEFS!  Artwork number 5092 on 5092 days. 

Mahommes in Copper

It's so fun getting caught up in the excitement of another Super Bowl run for our Kansas City Chiefs! In copper, I sketch the form, working back and front to push the metal where I want it.  It stretches with the stress, and I sculpt it with assorted tools.  I love switching up mediums daily - it keeps everything I do fresh.  Artwork number 4048 in 4048 days.

I just have to celebrate our hometown boys a bit!  So happy they are headed to the Super Bowl again this year!  I remember all the lean years, so these really are a treat!  Love getting to work in the metal again!  Artwork number 4046 in 4046 days. 

Kelce in Copper

How could I resist working my favorite tight end in copper?  The AFC game was so exciting, and Kelce was on fire out there!  So, I'm celebrating the Chiefs and putting good vibes into the atmosphere as we approach the Super Bowl!  I just love our home town boys, and as a Swiftie family - I especially support the romance with Taylor.  Who doesn't love LOVE?  Artwork number 4040 in 4040 days. 

Father Christmas in Copper

I've missed working the metal, and this time of year it calls me to it's side. Father Christmas is a perfect subject for the vintage feel of copper.  I'd planned to do several this season, but time grows short. Perhaps I'll have more time in January - one can only hope!  This miniature artwork is the 4001st in 4001 days.  Wowza! 

Copper Nutcracker Santa

What fun it is to work metal for the holidays!  These absolutely shine on a Christmas tree - and I'm hoping to get several done in the next few days. I'm using one of our Santa Nutcrackers for inspiration, and work from the front and back until the form emerges.  These days are filled with family dinners and games nights - so I'm happy to get this squeezed in before midnight!  Artwork number 3998 in 3998 days.

 I had visions of completing several metal work Christmas pieces this season, but here we are, just days left, and this is my first.  The time gets away from me when so many paintings are going out the door - and commissions, too. So, I'll try to get a few finished for those special few, and perhaps I'll work on these in the winter months.  Painting number 3996 in 3996 days. 

Music Art Love in Copper

I LOVED capturing the new location of Music Art Love in copper!  I had the chance to work this piece after dropping Mom off for a nap at our cushy abode. I take her nap times seriously - and get as much work finished as possible during that time!  On this day, I actually finished and framed, then needed to wake her up for "Wine Hour" at the Main Street Inn!  One never misses a wine hour if possible!  I'm so happy this piece has a new home, with the lovely owner of this wonderful place!! 😍❤️  Artwork number 3732 in 3732 days.

LOVE working this special place in copper - almost as much as I love staying here!! The Main Street Inn in Sainte Genevieve is one of my favorite places to stay, and it often inspires me when in town.  Architecture is especially well suited for this metal technique, working both from the front and back of the metal.  After sketching my scene with a ball stylus, I begin pushing and pressing the scene into shape, following the planes of the building.  I keep finding new ways to use my tools, each piece teaching me something new.  Painting number 3727 in 3727 days

This Inn Ste Gemme copper piece is coming to Music Art Love this week - along with a few others!  This gallery is the first to carry my metal pieces, so I hope you'll stop in to see their new space on a Main Street!   My new collection focuses on the wonderful historic architecture in Sainte Genevieve, and it is super fun to work in metal!  Artwork number 3724 in 3724 days.

Love working the Sainte Genevieve Catholic Church in metal for Music Art Love!  It's such a beautiful place! I'll be delivering these at the end of the month.  Artwork number 3710 in 3710 days. 

Stella and Me - metal

 

This little copper piece  of "Stella and Me" is heading for Music Art Love in Sainte Genevieve, along with several others at the end of the month!  I working on several miniature pieces and I hope to get a couple of larger pieces finished, too.  Love all the historic architecture of this gorgeous old town!  Painting number 3309 in 3309 days. 

Main Street Inn - copper

 

It is fun and challenging to work on miniature metal pieces for Music Art Love in Sainte Genevieve!  With the image no bigger than 3.5x2.5 inches - it is a little tricky to work this metal at this scale.  No gallery carries these pieces for me - as I sell them quickly.  So, in gratitude to Music Art Love - my first gallery space in this lovely town, I am creating a few works of local places just for the proprietor to show.  I may have a couple pieces larger than this one, but for now I'm concentrating on the miniatures. My first one is of a favorite place in town - and the only place I stay  - Main Street Inn! Artwork number 3304 in 3304 days.

It wa so exciting to work "Kelce" into copper  during the Super Bowl!! Working metal is a great stress reliever, and boy was that a stressful game!  The sketching the image into the metal with slight pressure starts the process, then I work some masses from the back and others from the front, working until the metal stretches out a bit in 3D fashion.  Each time I work a piece, I learn my tools a little more, and find better methods to achieve the result I desire.  A little rubbing of the metal and antiquing the edges, and I'm done before I know it. I finished 4 different pieces during that game!  Painting number 3700 in 3700 days. 

Copper Palms

 

It is super fun to work a little metal by the pool this afternoon, under the cover of the Florida room. The rain moved in just as I was heading to the beach to paint, so I switched gears and got my metal kit out.  With so many wonderful palms in the area, I can sit in one place and see 10 different specimens!  I begin by sketching with an embossing tool, then flipping front to back, working from both sides.  I love the detail I can achieve this way, and I do wonder if I'll one day push right through that metal!  Artwork number 3690 in 3690 days. 

Mahomes Copper

 

It's super fun to work in copper again - this time on one of my favorite Chief's!  It's been a few years since I've worked the metal - and this piece of copper was cut and ready in a bag.  After I was completely finished,  I realized that THIS batch of copper was not my favorite!  It's thicker and harder to work, requiring more pressure from both sides to get my image in.  I think I'll be cutting some of my other pieces to have at the ready - now that I'm getting reacquainted with my supplies - lol! How 'bout those CHIEFS?!!! After a REAL nail biter of a game, I am now celebrating with a little metal work to bask in the victory, haha!  I'm working on a few metal gallery pieces, so of course, I needed to represent our home town boys!  I start with an engraved sketch of some of our gear.  I'll need to pick up some of the new stuff this week!  Flipping front to back, I work the areas to recess and push out, accordingly, adding some definition with acrylic and solvent.  This is a great warm up for the architecture to come.  Art piece number 3678 in 3678 days and day 30 of the #stradaeasel challenge.

Surprise! I'm working in copper tonight - and I LOVE how it bends to my will! When my plein air schedule winds down, it is lovely to pick up some old friends (neglected art supplies) and play a bit.  I will be making a few of these small copper artworks for Music Art Love in Sainte Genevieve, with a focus on the local icons.  This will be the first gallery to carry this work - and I can't wait to deliver it in March!  Spreading my wings in the is the very best part of not being on the road. Santa Nutcracker in Metal

After an almost 3 year absence, I return to metal work tonight with this Santa Nutcracker!  I had only started finding my own way with the medium when my dad became sick, and real life intervened.  It has lately been on my mind, the feel of the metal and the burnishing tools, even images I would love to try in the medium, and so I have answered the call.  Art is like this for me, reaching out, calling, whispering, images unfolding in my mind as if I'm actually working them, and I feel restless until I get to them.  It is as if they are living things, waiting to be nurtured into life.  I borrowed a nutcracker from my son's dresser and went to work, first scratching in the composition, then pushing and pulling the metal from both sides until the image emerges.  It is so very satisfying to work the metal again - I wish I didn't need to sleep so I could work on through the night!  Artwork number 3237 in 3237 days.
