Hotel Lakeside

Hotel Lakeside is such a beautiful historic hotel on the coast of Lake Erie. One can look out over the water while dining or sitting on the screened in veranda. Steeped in vintage charm, it is low stepping back in time to a more peaceful pace.  It is a joy to paint here, if only for a few days.  Painting number 5105 in 5105 days. 

Hotel Lakeside Garden

I love painting Hotel Lakeside along Lake Erie! This magical, historic place is just my cup of tea!  This rainy day saturated the colors of the landscape, making this garden irresistible.  Finding an empty tent for shelter, I had a dry place to paint, and I let the painting unfold.  In just an hour and a half, I was packing to go meet mom for another show at the Hoover Auditorium, and had this wonderful quiet time in the rain under my belt.  Come see this painting tomorrow on the lawn from 1:30 to 3:30 for the wet paint sale!  Painting number 3841 in 3841 days. 

Hermann Crown Hotel

What a lovely place to stay - this historic Hermann Crown Hotel in the heart of charming Hermann!  After delicious burgers and wine tasting, we enjoyed both in the courtyard of the 1837 Cellar Bar to live music - which is performed every night of the month here!  It was a fun getaway in a lovely place - and what a great place to organize a plein air event.  I would totally come back for that!  Painting number 4329 in 4329 days, and day 9 of the #stradaeasel challenge. 

Hotel Bothwell

Would you believe this is my very first trip to historic downtown Sedalia?  Only an hour and half from home, this charming town is steeped in vintage architecture!  So many beautiful buildings, seemingly so untouched by civil war destruction.  So many of our Missouri towns are just a sprinkling of buildings instead of blocks and blocks and blocks.  I noticed the same thing about Salina, Kansas.  I do live in the historic "burnt district" of Cass County and Order #11, but it's not until I get a little farther out that I realize the difference in the historic district landscape.  It makes me wonder about all the homes that were lost during the Civil War, and thankful that ours survived, even when a mattress was laid against the west side and lit on fire.  We found this information from the family records passed down from the second family who owned it, given to us by Mrs. Rice.  The Hotel Bothwell is gorgeous inside, and the restaurant - Ivory Grille - was absolutely amazing.  Best meal I've had in ages, and the atmosphere is rich in history and romance.  So glad I found this place to stay while in town as Guest Speaker for the Sedalia art league.  Painting number 3347 in 3347 days.
