Wagon Load of Mums

 

What a treat to find these mums and vintage wagon in Parkville!  How could I resist painting this?!!  I had intended to find something cute inside to sketch, but didn't even make it in the door until I had painted both wagons with their mums in two different paintings!  These were brought in by the Amish in Jamesport, and wow, they impress!  Mom and I stopped on Main Street for quiche before landing here, then shopped a bit before heading back home.  Oh, I hope these are here during Paint Parkville, but I bet they will sell out before then!  Painting number 4642 in 4642 days. 

Mums!

I got these fabulous chrysanthemums from Suburban Lawn and Garden nearly a month ago - and they are still spectacular!  The very large flowers are bold and bright - lighting up my kitchen table!  I'm painting in miniature tonight, because once again I have worked myself into the late hours.  I had just boxed my last commission up when I sold another painting and got another commission!  I hadn't even made it to the UPS store - lol!  It's a good problem to have and I do like to keep on top of things.  So, that leaves only a little painting window, and I'm using ink and watercolor on handmade paper, and trying to capture those vivid hues.  I hope these sunny blooms last long into winter - and I can try them in oils!  Painting number 3230 in 3230 days. 

Mums!

What a happy surprise to receive mums for no reason - a gift from my daughter!  Michaela loved the fresh lavender color - and so do I!  Of course I had to capture them in ink and watercolor, in miniature as my painting time is very short these days!  We've had so many family gatherings lately, I've been very busy indeed!  So tiny 3.5x2.5 inch sizes are perfect for such days!  Oh I do hope to do them justice in oil one day soon!  Painting number 3160 in 3160 days.

Today was one of those days where it is absolutely a miracle that I could finish a painting.  I had the grandsons all day, the three year old whipping through here like a tornado - stirring up messes everywhere he went!  Once I had fed them lunch, got them settled in with lincoln logs, I set up my still life and started sketching out the piece.  I blocked in the values, in between the damage control, and even got the light in before having to walk away for hours.  When I was able to come back to it, it was now dark behind the set up, with the same warm lamp light from the front left.  I liked the change in lighting, so I started making the changes.  It would have been so much easier to leave it as it was, but you know how it is when you feel in your gut that the changes must be made.  I also had an old pair of scissors sketched in, but I decided against them.  This is one of my Grandma Frank's large Atlas canning jars and a small vintage pink wine glass, from a set, that my mom and I will drink from when we just want a little wine!  Day 43 on the painting trail :)
