Panera Bread in Brookside
As I visited with artist friends at an outdoor table at Starbucks, I found I had enough time to sketch this miniature ATC painting of Panera Bread across the street. I love this whole Brookside area with it's rich character and charm. and it is a joy to get to paint here with friends. Art Mob meets once a month on third Thursdays, and I always try to go when in town. Special treat? Liz brought her adorable baby girl - so I got my "baby fix", too!! Starbucks in Brookside
What a perfect day for sketching in Brookside! The morning air was cool and crisp as I left the house, but warm enough in town that I didn't need my jacket! After catching up with friends at our monthly Art Mob event - meeting at this Starbucks - I knew I would have to paint it! I love the drama of these "sliver of pie" buildings, and I jumped at the chance to draw it! With several artist friends in proximity, it was a fun morning of visiting while painting! Every time I paint here, I wonder why I don't do it more often. Painting number 2462 in 2462 days.

Brookside and 63rd Inked
Full of charm and the character of a bygone era, Brookside is a fabulous shopping AND painting destination! The architecture begs to be rendered, and ink is my choice today. It can be a little blinding to look at this very white paper in the bright sunlight, so I step intro the shade wherever possible for the work. If I can't, I use the broad brim of my hat to create my own shade. I hold the paper in such a way that it is under that cover while I draw. When I think I'm finished, I walk to actual shade to verify my values. That bright sunlight can play tricks with the eyes, and I could end up with very dark shading if I'm not careful. Now, it's time for shopping! Painting number 1777 in 1777 days.

Brookside Boulevard
Leaving early this morning, I took care of errands before heading to Brookside for the 2 hour quick paint. Arriving on scene, I find a painting in every direction! I've never painted here, though it is only 35 minutes from my home! The place is steeped in history, with fabulous vintage store fronts everywhere! I fully intended on painting in oil, but I just couldn't lay down the ink pens! Truly, architecture like this is made for my fountain pen, and I didn't stop until I'd rendered three! Painting number 1753 in 1753 days. What a fun day sponsored by the Savory Spice Shop - thanks to Rebecca! Can't wait to try my new fancy bourbon pepper!
