Rusted Turquoise Truck

This rusted old turquoise truck is a real show stopper in this Albion field.  I wish I knew the story behind this forgotten truck!  I painted this beauty for one of my entries in the Edward's County Paint Out - and this one sold at the opening, and another was commissioned the same week.  Love painting this small town and it's hidden treasures!  Painting number 2857 in 2857 days. 

Turquoise Bike Garden

 What better place than a tree top garden to spend the afternoon with ink and watercolor?  The turquoise bike surrounded with flowers hooked me right in!  With a steady breeze, my watercolors seemed to dry as soon as I laid them down - so I had to coax them along to deepen their hues.  I am very much a wet into dry painter, and I seldom layer.  So. I need to get those areas where I want them while wet - which is sort of like speed painting on a sunny, windy day!  Painting number 2783 in 2783 days. 

Blue House Forsythia

This may have been the nicest weather we've ever had for the Daniel Boone paint outs!  The forsythia are blooming, and I am capturing them before they fade for another year.  So happy to get to paint them again! Making this quick because champagne is waiting!  Painting number 1920 in 1920 days.

Boulevard Photo Booth

When the Urban Sketchers KC venue was changed to inside the Boulevard Brewing Company this morning, I couldn't wait to go paint!  I've not been inside of this cool old building just east of the icon.  Wow!  It is very cool inside, with SO MANY wonderful things to paint!  When I went upstairs and saw this Shasta camper-turned-photo booth, I looked no further and claimed my spot to paint!  I painted three from this location before taking a quick spin around to see the whole place.  I really need to return here for a whole day of painting and sampling the fine beers!  Painting number 1910 in 1910 days.

Sunlit Winter Farm

Today was bright and beautiful - warming up to 61 degrees!  Crazy for January!  Taking today's lighting and applying it to last week's snow, brought me to the warm turquoise blues in this scene. I have also used my old fav, ultramarine.  Using a limited palette today, I add warmth throughout the landscape with yellow ochre and burnt sienna.  I am painting on canvas again, and after a few days of painting on the smooth surfaces of wood, the shift to a woven texture is a challenge.  The tooth grabs the paint in interesting ways, but a smooth surface allows me to be in control.  Both have advantages.  This painting makes 748 in 748 days, and Day 17 of the 30 Day Painting Challenge.
