Ocean Villa Palm

It is fun to get in a quick palm study before heading back to the beach for sunset!  We've been so busy seeing the sights, it's been hard to squeeze in a painting between the family fun.  With the small set up, and different light and color on this side of the state, I've been slow to hit my stride this week.  I need a little more time to focus on this landscape, before making it mine.  Hope to find that time tomorrow!  I do love that it feels like summer on Anastasia Island! Florida Palm

 

What fun to paint the Victoria palm overhead, as I bask in the sun, enjoying this gorgeous day, with a refreshing drink at my side!  In ink and watercolor, I sketch the fronds as they blow, dropping color in loosely where I see it.  I love getting to paint them - especially on a day when snow is falling back home!  It's going to be a shock to return to cold and inclimate weather.  I sure do love these sunny winter days along the gulf coast!  Painting number 3695 in 3695 days. 

Palm Study

What a pleasure to sit out and sketch on a warm, balmy morning!  After an early run and a leisurely cup of hot tea with fresh lemon, this was a treat! I didn't realize my favorite fountain pen was very low in ink, so I'm using another favorite pen that is loaded with Robert Oster's Thunderstorm. I leaned back in an Adirondack chair and looked upward to sketch this beautiful palm tree.  I love studying their shapes and colors, especially since I have to travel to paint them!  Little hummingbirds buzzed all around me as I worked, I was situated back against a lemon tree laden with blooms and fruit  one little bird studied me for several seconds, trying to decide if I was a flower or not!  So fun to experience summer weather in March!  Painting number 3374 in 3374 days. 
 

Palm!

I don't get to sketch these babies everyday!  The palm trees here are so varied - and it has been fun to explore them a little with paint this week!  After a morning of shopping and lunch with family, this palm tree was calling my name.  I love the look of the fronds splayed out, so with a quick sketch in ink, I then filled in with watercolor.  I work wet on wet, letting the colors mingle as I drop them in, coming in with just a little more ink at the end.  There are 5 different varieties of palms within sight, but I only have time to sketch one!  Painting number 3192 in 3192 days.
