Some days, it is nearly dark before I get to my easel. It feels so good to finally squeeze in that painting! I only have a few of these plants this year, but the red is definitely a favorite! They all seem a little slower this year to take off, but they are finally showing some color now. I found a few more starts in the garden today, and an already looking for their special spots! Now is better sign off before I fall asleep - it's been a very, very busy day. Painting number 4935 in 4935 days.

Guarding the Girls
I loved painting these sweet chickens at Sunflower Hill Farm- and just realized I forgot to share them! I paint so many paintings at a plein air event, that one or two slip through the cracks at times. This handmade paper is particularly rough, and it soaked up the paint like crazy! I thought I was finished a couple times only to go back in with more color. Watercolor can fade so much on this handmade cotton paper! Painting number 4894 in 4894 days.

Orchids!
I love sketching the delicate beauty of orchids, as their blooms dangle on the stem. These are an annual showstopper, seemingly blooming for months! This has been a day of new beginnings with the addition of our new horse, Lady Belle, and two half grown kittens. Rescued from the side of the road, a yellow tabby and sweet spotted calico have found their way to us - thanks to my dear painting friend, Teddy Jackson. We spent the day outside with family and the animals, still working on Lady Belle's lodging. I will soon be painting these little sweethearts, too! Painting number 4758 in 4758 days.

Florida Palms
Oh how delightful it is to sketch my brother's palm trees as I sit by the pool, drinking my morning tea! He has a very tropical lawnscape which is perfect for painting! I'm running a few errands and doing a little shopping with Mom today while the boys are at work, so early sketching is important. Mom lunches and naps on almost a schedule, which is also a great time for me to paint. It seems I am always painting around someone else's schedule, lol. Painting number 5106 in 5106 days.
