Daffodil

Oh, how I love these days full of daffodils!  Each day, many more blooms open up, and I can hardly wait to paint them!  With only a little window within the rain to paint, I am painting in miniature for this one.  It is ATC sized at 2.5x3.5, and a joy to paint on a very busy day!  Painting number 4973 in 4973 days.

I have SO MANY daffodils opening up!  I hope I can get them all painted before they fade!!  Painting number 4972 in 4972 days. 

I love squeezing a miniature painting into a full day of gardening - especially early in March!  What beautiful weather to be outside all day!  It was nearly 80 degrees today in the KC area - so much for March coming in like a lion.  I took full advantage of this day, tending to beds and transplanting some lilies and peonies that I accidently disturbed while removing a small tree. These daffodils are only the first of many more to come, and I can hardly wait to paint them all!  Painting number 4970 in 4970 days.

Today is my 3000th painting in 3000 days - how time flies! I never would have dreamed that over 8 years ago, a 30 day painting challenge would lead me here.  I've grown so much as an artist, no longer daunted by any subject I may tackle. My love for the painting process has grown strong for many mediums, switching from one to another with ease. Painting every day has enriched my life in so many ways.  A true life line during covid lockdown, I could escape it all in the rural landscape right outside my door.  A crutch to cling to, painting daily helped me through the illnesses and passing of my Dad, and still helps prop me up on the difficult days.  An outlet of joy, I have found expression in my love of the wonders found on this earth, both natural and man-made.  Who knows where it will take me next - but I am so very thankful I started the journey.  Painting number 3000 in 3000 days. 

First Daffodil

I though I should capture this first daffodil in oils, as it will certainly not last for long.  It has popped up very close to the walk, and our new little puppy has twice tried to bite at it in passing.  The bright yellow bloom bobbing in the wind is an enticing as a toy to him!  Wanting to paint this one small, as I have a full day ahead, I chose the 7x5 inch canvas which had not yet been primed.  Washing it with a little paint and oil for some color, I painted directly on the canvas until all areas were blocked in.  With a loose finish, this is the 454th painting in as many days.  I'm so thankful for the warmer days!
