Osage Orange

I'm using a fountain pen that has been hiding in one of my little used bags, and this pen was loaded with a mix of Cocoa Brown and Raven Black - both by Levenger.  I had forgotten I had done this in my quest for the perfect brown black ink!  Haha!  Well, it has a lovely color to it when wet, perfect for this winter landscape.  This is a miniature painting at only 3 inches square - and a perfect way to capture this old hedge apple tree down by the pond.  Painting number 2590 in 2590 days.

This ink is one that I blended with Levenger's Cocoa brown and Raven black ink in one of my fountain pens.  It has a rich warm black color until I add a little water, when it then shows it's brown side.  When I first used it, I thought I would run it out, and then fill with another ink.  But, now I kind of like the way it behaves in water, showing a more chromatic look of it's color.  Love playing with these inks in the landscape!!  Although, I do wish I had enough time to take my oils out in this winter beauty!  I am missing them!!  I hope to get back to them soon!!  Painting number 2585 in 2585 days.

Nosy Neighbors

Cows are so inquisitive!  If I'm anywhere in sight, these guys start heading to the fence to get a better look at me!  It brings back all those childhood memories where my Grandma and Grandpa Frank ran cattle, and my Great Uncle Richard had a large farm with all kinds of livestock.  Cows have so much personality, and are the best mothers, looking out for all the young.  I've been wanting to sketch these, and have finally gotten the chance!  Maybe next time I'll take my oils out!  Painting number 2164 inn 2164 days.

Santa Profile

After spending a bittersweet afternoon at my Aunt Diana's house, I had the bright idea to swing by the Christmas in the Park event.  We are still waiting in line 45 minutes later. Santa can not believe how long it is taking!  He may miss his midnight ride!  Merry Christmas Eve to you all!  Painting number 2159 in 2159 days!

20th Street Inked

With a little time between a gallery drop off and the Urban Sketchers KC event at the City Market, I found an appealing street scene.  Pulling out my favorite pen, I couldn't get the ink to flow.  It has been a constant at my side, could I have used up all the ink?  Apparently so!  Thank goodness for the back up pen, another TWSBI, this one loaded with a black brown I mixed myself using Levenger inks.  I really love the vintage look of this ink, and it moves well with water.  With so many pens, I sometimes forget to use the ones with colored ink.  I really need to pick this one up more often!  Painting number 2021 in 2021 days.
