Evening Light at Balduccis

Balducci's is a must visit destination each time I'm in Augusta, and this wonderful old barn is an icon.  By special request, I am recreating one that sold during the Augusta Plein Air Art Festival, to deliver while I am in town.  So happy to have wonderful weather for the weekend!  Painting number 2360 in 2360 days.

I first sketched out my composition with pen and ink on my favorite cotton rag paper, and started the lines on my panel with paint.  The atmosphere grew heavy and a few raindrops hit my panel.  I dropped everything to go frame this little gem and turn it in.  One other time, I had an ink drawing completely bleed into a blackish mess on a rainy day - even though it was under cover!  Forgetting to take a photo in my rush, I was happy to find this one.  This drawing has a new home!  Painting number 2316 in 2316 days.

Vineyard Barn

I look forward to the sunset paint at Balducci's Vineyard every year.  The challenge is to find an angle and view I haven't painted before.  Looking for something more dramatic, I chose this vantage with the sweeping road down past the tent.  So happy the rain held off until I had turned this one in!  Painting number 2311 in 2311 days.

Barn in the Mist

My third painting of the day was the annual Balducci's sunset paintout, and true to form,  the whole day had been rainy.  Not just rain either,  thunder and lightning, too!  After adding another layer of clothes and a glass of wine, I was toasty as I painted in the mist.  I've not approached this barn from this angle before,  and it was rather dramatic.  I love to visit with everyone as they walk from easel to easel, and the time flies quickly by.   Before I knew it,  I was finished and turning in my painting.  Tomorrow is the day for turning in work and a celebration for the artists afterward.  I think I'd better get my paintings organized and ready for the sale on Sunday!  Painting number 1569 in 1569 days :)
