Along Main Street

I LOVE capturing the small town charm of Weston in ink and watercolor!  This is the 7th annual Weston Plein Air event, and I've seen a resurgence in this small town over the years.  The local businesses are thriving and every block in full of life - day and night!  It's fun to come here with Mom and Teddy for a girl's weekend, and enjoy all Weston has to offer!  This painting now showing at Weston Coffee Roastery!

Mountain Glory

The mountain view from the Admin Building at the YMCA of the Rockies is stunning!  I arrived early to sketch out this scene in ink and watercolor, for the painting to come afterward in oil.  The light turns golden in the evening andc morning, and it's irresistible!  I talked to a few visitors as they checked in, and was happy to share my process as I worked. This is an amazing place with amazing views, and i can't wait to do it all again tomorrow! Painting number 4561 in 4561 days. This one is now showing at the Library at the YMCA of the Rockies until Wednesday!

Longhouse at the Arboretum

It's so fun to sketch at the Overland Park Arboretum with artist friends and my daughter, too!  This grand new entrance with it's long reflection pools spilling one into another, is beautiful.  I am using a long, thin cotton paper for this sketch, and it buckles a little when wet. As with all handmade papers, each one is different, and part of the process is learning it's attributes, and focusing on what works rather than what doesn't. Once, I set the more challenging papers aside, now I embrace those differences, and am driven to make the most of them.  It's a bit like life, isn't it?  Painting number 5173 in 5173 days.

Dusk on the Vineyard

I have painted more than I thought I would in this 4 day event, and as a result I am running out of panels!  This painting has a secret, there is another landscape underneath it!  It was a lake scene that I really didn't care for, so I painted the beautiful vineyard of Nobeleis right over the top of it!  Now - I love it!  Painting number 1353 in 1353 days :)
