Sunflowers in August

These sunflowers were reaching up from the ground and blooming, after being blown over in our last storm.  I hadn't yet gotten to them for clean up, and when I did, I could clearly see they were still growing and the buds were opening.  Snipping them out of the mud, I brought their cheerful faces inside, and of course I had to paint the survivors! Next time I feel like giving up, I'm going to think about these sunflowers, rising from the mud to shine! I think I'll paint them in oil, too.  The night time lighting is so much more dramatic than the daylight I began this painting in!  Painting number 3875 in 3875 days.
