12 6th Street

The weather couldn't be nicer for painting en plein air!  It is such a treat after the heat indexes of 106 last week!  I arrived looking at a different format in my paper, but soon decided to go with a more sweeping view of the scene, capturing house,  garden, and street.  With the dramatic perch on the hill, I took more time sketching out the angles and lines with a water resistant ink, to come back in with a water soluble one.  I then took a water brush pen to the areas I wanted to wash a little, finding the balance.  I do love working with the ink, so therapeutic as I capture a scene. Painting number 3119 in 3119 days. 

Rustic Barn Inked

I love drawing these wonderful old midwest barns!  Full of character, they take me back to my childhood and playing in the old barns of my grandparents and great aunt and uncle. Pictured here is my favorite TWSBI Diamond mini fountain pen and Levenger's Raven Black ink, probably my most used combo for sketching.  I love the rich velvety flow of the ink from that medium nib on my handmade cotton paper!  Busy, busy days find me with shorter painting windows - why is there never enough time?  Painting number 2889 in 2889 days. 

Historical Society at Union Cemetery

Love these gorgeous autumn days where the weather is perfect and the colors are shining!  With this 7x5 Guerrilla Painter thumb box pochade, I can store 2 wet paintings and all of my supplies under that shelf!  My palette is an Altoid tin - which closes up and stores inside.  I have attached a purse like strap to it, so it looks very like an artsy purse - until I open it up!  This little guy is probably my second favorite pochade box - right behind my French Resistance box!  Painting number 2836 in 2836 days!
