Chives

 

My chives are blooming!  So, of course I have to paint them!  I have tried these a few times outside in the garden, and they have never wintered over.  With this indoor plant, I am going to use the seeds to start more plants outdoors, to see if I have better luck.  With ink and watercolor I capture their beauty before I snip to much away for salads.

Cascading Petunias

I planted the seeds to this cascading petunia in December 2022 in my new Aerogarden, a gift from my girls.  It has bloomed abundantly for these last 14 months!  I keep it pruned when it gets too leggy, and it keeps sending forth blooms!  I am finally getting around to painting it with ink and watercolor. Painting number 4058 in 4058 days. 

Two Zinnias

 

I am painting my indoor zinnias since I didn't come to my easel until after dark!  What started as trimming a few trees on the wooded path through the raspberry patch, turned into a work until dark day.  With no daylight left and no desire to go back or for a nocturne paint, I turned once again to my hydronic garden for floral support!  These blooms just get bigger and bigger, and in fact, I had to take the plant out of my Gardyn and set it up Kratky style in a large mason jar. It was not getting enough water in the small cup of the garden set up.  I chose to plant my collected seed in there, knowing it would be far too large one day.  I love having those blooms in the house! Thank goodness for hydronics! Painting number 3897 in 3897 days, abs day13 of the stradaeasel challenge.  It seems that some of my posts have not been posting recently.  When I get a little time, I'm going to have to go back through and reload the missing ones.  

Peach Zinnia

 Tonight I'm painting one of the zinnias I have grown from seed in my hydroponic Gardyn! I LOVE having beautiful blooms growing among my herbs, greens and tomatoes!  Mint is growing behind the long stems of this beautiful peach colored zinnia, and peaks out on the side.  I started my hydronic growing adventure last November, and only planted this seed in early summer.  I'm constantly trying new things, especially new lettuce varieties, and now I'm beginning to sprinkle in blooms.  I'm currently trying to start strawflowers, and just today brought in a lovely marigold seed head from one of my garden plants outdoors.  I save seed, but this plant does not look like any I've grown before. I love the wild and twisty petals, and the unusual color.  Since I waited past dark to paint - this was the perfect subject for today, and right after I finished painting - the power went out for a while!  So happy my timing was on point tonight!  A nocturne by candlelight really would have been something!
