With pen and ink I capture Santa on his rounds. Diamine's Nostalgia is a lovely warm shade from Day 10 of their Inkvent Calendar. I've penned one of our chickens in, as she follows Santa down the path. The presents are all set under the tree, stockings are hung, as I listen to the sweet notes of Michael strumming on his guitar. It's so nice having him home for Christmas Eve. I've missed this boy's guitar playing before bed each night. Painting number 4740 in 4740 days.

Pensive Santa
He's making a list and checking it twice - and it's so fun to paint Santa for Christmas! After a gathering of the Frank side at my cousin's today, it has only left a little time for painting and posting. It's lovely to see cousins, aunts and my uncle with my brother's family and Mom, too. And I remember all those that once joined us on this holiday, too. Painting number 4738 in 4738 days.

Ornaments Five
Shiny ornaments are simply irresistible this time of year! And even though I have a plate full of unfinished tasks, I just had to get a quick painting in. Bright colors, in acrylic, are my go to for fast and bold painting. I think I'd love to do a large painting in this theme for the holidays, but who knows when I'll find the time? Shiny Ornaments
What fun it is to paint festive ornaments with acrylics again! I love how quickly acrylics dry, and the rich color is perfect for paintball these shiny balls. In fact, I've never reached for my oils for these, and now I wonder why? I'm normally looking for quick paintings to send out this time of year, and acrylics fit that bill. This is also the time I reach for gallery wrapped canvases, as I paint right onto the edges. No need for frames, which is a convenience, too. Painting number 4709 in 4709 days.

Festive Ornaments
Christmas is coming and it's time to start painting the magic! We deck the halls right after Thanksgiving, but I light our outdoor Alberta spruce earlier, and pull out these shiny ornaments for that! It's the perfect opportunity to start painting these shiny jewels, and it really gets me in the mood for the holidays! Painting number 4705 in 4705 days.

Union Station KC MO
I posted yesterday's Union Station painting in the evening, and this morning it sold before i could leave the house! So, in a mad dash to come up with another that would match my inventory for Powell Gardens, I put this one in it's place. Union Station is a favorite place to paint this time of year, and I hope to get there a few more times while the halls are decked! This painting and 7 other are now showing at Powell Gardens. Be there first to get your choice! Painting number 4697 in 4697 days.

Santa at the Christmas Tree
It's a Merry Christmas Eve to capture Santa at the tree - as I finish all those last details with a mug of hot tea! I'm sending out love and light to all tonight, as preparations wrap up. On such a night, memories flood back from past Christmas eves, when we waited for all the kids to be asleep before setting out all the presents. Santa would come in the night to fill stockings and to leave something special for each girl and boy. I loved the days when the house was full and big hugs were just around the corner. When the family all gathers here tomorrow, we will be a large bunch indeed, and it will be another Christmas of cherished memories together. Painting number 5048 in 5048 days.

Shiny Ornaments
It's fun to squeeze in a painting during all the fun holiday festivities with family! I LOVE this time of year! This day started with a goat emergency, one was being chased by the others and was limping. After calling for reinforcements. I was off to Casper's Christmas party at preschool. I arrived home in time to prepare for Aunt Diana and Uncle Ed to come visit. Danny and boys, Mom, Tiffany and family all joined the fun, too, which we watched Kirby and Casper. The campfire was also fun, though we didn't stay out long in this cold night! Painting number 5044 in 5044 days.

Shiny Ornaments
I love painting the bright colors of Christmas in acrylic on canvas! These shiny ornaments are super fun to describe with paint. The acrylic layers quickly with the fast dry time, and luxury I don't have with oils. I mark my lines first with a dark hue, then get those masses in, painting the reflections while each color is on my brush. This is a quick paint between commissions, just a little something to brighten up the day! Now, I'm off to start another one! Painting number 5036 in 5036 days.

Cardinal Wreath
As I finish this season's paintings, shipments and deliveries, I now turn to my Christmas card painting. I choose a different theme each year, and this year I drifted between multiple themes, unable to choose! With the early snow, I painted several in oil for my cards. Then I painted those bold and bright ornaments - what a cheerful card those would make, and I painted several! Santas in pen and ink? Acrylic Union Station paintings? As my workload started to wind down, I was drawn to a simpler, more peaceful reflection of the season. I began to paint little slices of home in ink and watercolor. This vintage wreath in one I found in Sedalia while antique shopping with my mom - and I loved the light and airy feel of it, almost like it is icy and glistening. I love the process of capturing this, so therapeutic is the act during a busy season. It brings the simple pleasures back into focus, and the anticipation of making new memories here with the family through the holidays. I am truly blessed beyond measure. Night at Union Station
![]() |
Union Station takes on a magical presence when visited at night. As the crowds slacken, the very large tree dominates in this space, and it's reflection on the floor is stunning. What a treat to get to capture this in oil on panel, and already I long to paint it large for my own wall. This majestic place is steeped in history, and the history of so many families who come here each Christmas to make memories. Painting number 3989 in 3989 days.

Union Station Wreath
What a lovely afternoon to spend painting at Union Station! I love those grand arched windows in their holiday attire - festive with the large wreath and red bow. I've met artist friends here to paint, and finished two before heading out. The restaurants were full and many families came to experience the Christmas magic here as I worked. I'm so very thankful this place stands proudly as it did so many years ago. We were so close to losing her when she was in disrepair. My holiday is not complete until I paint Union Station! Three Ornaments
This painting and local plein air work will be at the Holiday Open House at the Oliver Building Gallery tomorrow night in the historic West Bottoms from 6:00 to 9:00. What a wonderful way to celebrate the season! I'll be featuring two paintings from the Inaugural Historic West Bottoms Plein Air Event in May as well as 4 holiday paintings, one of the Country Club Plaza, one of Union Station and another Christmas ornament painting. It promises to be an evening full of good cheer with friends and local businesses. Painting number 3985 in 3985 days.

Holiday Ornaments
After spending time with the Nolan, Quinn and Layne, I find a little time to paint before bedtime. Oh what fun it is to paint these shiny, colorful ornaments! This large bowl of balls waits on the back porch for little hands to adorn them, and hang them on our outdoor spruce. I will help the little ones dip their hand into acrylic paint - and then grab the ornament, leaving a lasting impression of this year's Christmas handprint. I hope to paint these a few more times before I put them away in January! Painting number 3983 in 3983 days

Shiny Ornaments
As I deck the halls, I find a bowl of old ornaments that I keep for painting! Where fancy and ornate adorn my trees, the shiny colored glass balls make great subject matter! Reflecting colors off of each other, they are happy, bold and bright! I use acrylic paint for these baubles - and can't wait to paint some more. Perhaps this will be my Christmas card theme for the season?! Painting number 3975 in 3975 days.

Christmas at Family Tree
Painting this time of year at a favorite local nursery always gets me in the Christmas spirit! Family Tree Nursery welcomed our Monday watercolor group today, and Michaela and the boys joined me there as well! As I sketched a couple of beautiful trees, they picked out special ornaments and a gift for Daddy. We enjoyed hot steamers in the greenhouse afterward, and I picked up a few new plants on the way out. It was a lovely morning filled with holiday cheer and we'll wishers add I visited with the shoppers. What a lovely way to kick off the week of Thanksgiving! Painting number 3965 in 3965 days.

Plaza Lights Magic
I absolutely LOVE painting the Country Club Plaza for the holidays! Always inspiring, this place is celebrating it's 100th year! Though I've painted these gorgeous streets multiple times, I've never chosen acrylics to do it with. I've been painting a great deal lately, so it's wonderful to stretch into a different medium for a bit. I'm using a do brush technique with heavy body acrylics, without water. They build up with a thicker, more opaque quality this way. And the color pop of that acrylic paint is also very different from my oils. Such a great change! The best bonus is that the painting dries very quickly, so I could frame it up the same day! This one is now showing at HDR Inc in Kansas City along with 14 others. It is the 3955th painting in 3955 days.

Suburban Christmas
Here is one more holiday painting from Suburban Lawn and Garden to celebrate the season. I love how welcoming this local nursery is to artists, greeting us with snacks and pizza for lunch! With all the lovely Christmas decor, it was hard to focus on just one subject! We've had a wonderful day with family, followed by a game of Spades, and now it is time for this artist to rest and recharge. Painting number 4136 in 4136 days.

Crown Center Wreath
This giant wreath adorns the front entrance into Halls Crown Center, facing the Mayor's Christmas tree which you can see poking out the top, behind the wreath! This wreath is also a Kansas City icon, with couples and families taking their holiday photos in front of it. The days are ticking by and Christmas is nearly here. We have snow and blizzard like winds expected tonight - so I hope to be painting snow tomorrow - maybe from inside looking out - if it really hits -40 windchills!! Painting number 4129 in 4129 days.

Westin Christmas Tree
I LOVE painting the Christmas tree at Crown Center Westin hotel! It is the only tree in town with an indoor garden and waterfall behind it - which serenaded me as I worked! Many families come to this tree for Christmas photos, too, and it's fun to see them gathering. With ink I first sketch out the scene, then I follow with watercolor. I've started carrying a few fountain pens with colored ink - to add a little spark at the end. I think I like the added depth - and each ink moves with water, too, so the possibilities are endless!
