Jackson Stables

It brings back fond memories to paint the horses of Jackson Stables!  I'm so fortunate to be the Artist in Residence here at the YMCA of the Rockies, and I an making every moment count!  The family is here and we're planning to take a horseback trail ride through the mountains in the next couple of days. It's great to make the memories and capture them in paint!  Painting number 4551 in 4551 days. 

Morning at the Barn

How could I possibly resist painting such an amazing old barn with a vista view behind it?  Complete with a sweet horse, this place was a "must paint" as soon as i saw it!  Down a long, winding, narrow road, this place was definitely worth the almost a mile back-up drive I had to make when i came head on to a large rv in that single lane drive!  Thank goodness for my vast back up experience - because those ditches were too steep to pull in to.  One never knows what may be at the end of such roads, and this scene was my reward!  Love these Missouri backroads! Painting number 3832 in 3832 days. 

Trail and Pony Rides

What fun to stumble upon this nostalgic stable at Tan-Tar-A resort at Lake of the Ozarks!  Looking for the check-in location, I took a different road out than I drove in, and I'm so glad I did!  It was getting dark by the time I finished this ink and watercolor painting!  Now it's time for an icy cold drink and a swim!  Painting number 3128 in 3128 days. 

Pickering Farm

After breakfast with my parents this morning, we drove back to the horse barn at the Owen Good Farm, originally the Pickering Farm.  It's been awhile since I've been back there, and it is slipping into ruin.  Once a grand stable, there is even a ballroom on the upper level where parties were held.  I plan to capture many drawings here while it still stands.  I get my lines in with a Pitt pen, and then wash with a light coat of watercolor  - the classics by watercolor confections in this case.  What a beautiful barn, rich in history, and this is my 1452nd painting in 1452 days :)
