I love painting all the fun places at the Lake of the Ozarks!  There are SO many restaurants on the lake, one can simply drive their boat up to the dock to enjoy the fun!  I loved the plein air events that were held down here a few years ago, and wish they would return. I found so many cool places to paint - caves included!  This commission will soon be heading to the Lake Fine Art Galleria, along with two others.  Painting number 4938 in 4938 days. 

Fogo de Chao

I love getting an early start on this weekend's Urban Sketchers "Paint the Plaza" day.  The weather has been spectacular this week, so it has been a joy to sketch outside!  This building is another iconic stand out in the Country Club Plaza. I can't tell for sure from here, but it looks like the face of the clocks are also plaza images.  I'm always surprised by the details I see when I'm painting on location.  They are so much more apparent as I work.   The opposite is also true - sometimes there are big ugly things in my line of vision, and I don't see them at all as I paint.  I think there is a lot of "self-editing" going on in my head - without my knowledge! Nocturne painting is so rewarding, and so different from the daylight.  I have only started to paint these scenes from a lighter panel, not the dark toned ones I've used for years. There are real benefits to this.  I work by the street lights, and a lighter panel allows me to read color and temperature more effectively in low light situations.  I also find my colors more true.  I can't wait to explore this further, maybe some snowy winter night scenes?  Painting number 2525 in 2525 days.

Fish Creek Quick Paint

What a gorgeous place!  The quick paint contest at the Door County plein air event was at Fish Creek this morning.  This town was quiet and peaceful early in the morning, but quickly filled with people milling through the streets - searching out all plein air artists.  I set up in the yard across the street - and had a perfect, shady spot from which to paint.  I met the most wonderful people - everyone is so friendly in this charming little town!  This whole trip has been so amazing - it is hard to leave such a picturesque place.  I am already planning for next year!  This painting makes 572 in 572 days.
