Lodge at Petit Jean Mountain

The Lodge on Petit Jean Mountain is magnificent as one climbs up from the Cedar Falls Trail. I love hiking and sketching the trails on this mountain.  Waterfalls and rocky bluffs dot the park, and I certainly need more time to sketch the beauty.  I find those moments while family rests or at least stays in one spot for a while.  It's been so many years since we've been here.  Our young family were only 4 at the time - and now, two of our children brought their families here, so we were 13 with Mom. It seems like just yesterday we were here in this lodge enjoying a meal with both of my parents.  Painting number 4831 in 4831 days.

Morning at Cobblestone Lodge

SOLD

I have never been to this historic lodge before, so this day was a real treat!  I absolutely love historic lodges, and i have only seen glimpses of it from the opposite side of the Meramec River. So, when i realized where I was painting today - I was thrilled! I am so honored this painting was selected for today's Purchase Award for Steelville Plein Air!  Thank you Cobblestone Lodge for hosting, FCNB bank for sponsoring, and Steelville Arts Council for organizing this event! Mound Ridge Lodge

There's nothing like pen and ink for a quick sketch, especially when my subject is architecture!  This is the main entrance from the river, where long ago boats would bring the masses to this spot for rest and restoration.  This is my lodging for the weekend mentorship of high school students in the Steelville area.  I have a room in the right side, and love sketching this special place where I have shared wine and conversation with artist friends, getting to know them all a little better.  Love this historic lodge along the Meramec River, and hope to return for years to come!  Painting number 4257 in 4257 days.
