On Red Barn Farm

 

I couldn't resist painting this path through the historic barns at the Red Barn Farm, so nostalgicis the feel of this place. There are many animals here, but only the house and a pig were in my view.  Chickens and turkeys were near the top of this path, on the right, and the goats were right beside me!  I stood in the shade of their building to paint most of this.  It's fun to paint as families come to pick pumpkins and enjoy the animals on this farm. Tiefenbrun Farm

Tiefenbrun Farm was so much lovelier than expected!  I felt like i had walked into a French landscape, complete with outbuildings, lakes, and a creek winding through it!  The children of the family were so interested in what we artists were doing - and Alice even painted the pink flowers into the garden on my painting.  She's already has an eye for art, i hope she's inspired to explore all the possibilities!  I LOVED painting this incredible 1889 French inspired home and farm today- and I'm so honored this painting was awarded an Honorable Mention, too!  Painting number 5162 in 5162 days. 

Crestview Dairy Inked

It was a cold, windy kick off for the Summit Art Plein Air at Crestview Dairy, with winds gusting to 40 mph. As I was sketching, sleet began to bounce off my drawing - creating a little pile in my lap!  It even melted a little on my paper, saturating the ink a little!  Despite the adverse conditions, I was toasty warm with my infrared fingerless gloves, socks, and battery heated outer socks.  Plein air is delightful in all weather - when I'm warm!  I didn't have enough light to get a clear photo tonight, so I'll take another in daylight before heading out in the morning!  Painting number 3382 in 3382 days. 

At Home on the Farm

I drove all over this place before coming back to this spot to paint.  My second painting of the day, i started with my oils in the morning.  The morning light was so strong, I had to work in oils first!  The light had softened as I started the ink drawing, and I also shifted my position to gain a better composition.  I found a pocket of shade on this very hot day, and sketched my scene from there.  The family came by a couple times as I worked close to the road, and I'd lift it up for them to see as they passed!  It's so fun to be out among others creating art again!  I really missed that last year!  Painting number 3081 in 3081 days. 

Morning at Wurdack Farm

What joy it was to arrive at our private paint out on this amazing Wurdack Farm!  Driving down two roads on this property, I decided on painting young cows in their corral at a different white barn.  I turned around, grabbed my gear, and they had disappeared into the woods behind the barn!   Loving this scene as I scouted the place, I returned to paint it.  I love the dramatic way the farm sits just behind that ridge!  It was so fun to visit with the family that lives here, as they drove all over the countryside to find us artists scattered to the wind! I enjoyed this so much, I moved down to the fence to draw this scene from a slightly different vantage in ink.  If only I worked faster, I could have made it to the spring to paint, too!  Painting number 3072 in 3072 days.
