Perennial Vegetable Seeds

 I am painting what I'm planting again, and these are all perennial vegetables.  I've been researching different vegetables during the winter, and I think these will fit right into our meals. It's pretty fun to have great ink loaded in my fountain pens for am extra pop of color in the finish!  Painting number  4801 in 4801 days. 

Calendula Seeds

 

I love planting in January at 67 degrees, and then adding it to my art journal in ink and watercolor!  Last year, I was painting snow scenes here, and tonight I was barefoot in the front yard looking at the brilliant stars!  I have only grown this plant once and it was in my hydroponic system. It was not vigorous and only produced a few very small flowers.  So, I am winter sowing this seed in front of my asparagus, looking for a beautiful show this summer. I have designated a special spot for an apothecary garden, where mint, wild onions, garlic chives and wild mustard grow.  I plan to move a few other medicinal herbs here from other spots, too.  I've drawn this in ink, washed in watercolor, and finished with coordinating inks in the fountain pens.  All are TWSBIs, the workhorses of my fountain pen collection. Chicadee Pine

 

I love sketching my feathered friends - and using three different inks to do it!  Chicadees are the sweetest little birds, and I enjoy watching them in the garden. I have all three pens loaded with favorite inks in matching colors, and I use a water brush pen to move the ink around a bit.  As I play with these inks, I am anxiously awaiting the newest Diamine Inkvent Calendar 2025! I can't wait to discover the little bottles of ink for each day until Christmas! Painting number 4710 in 4710 days. 

Young Bucks

It is super fun to sketch young deer at play, with three fountain pens loaded with different inks, adding water for flow within the masses!  I have an assortment of fountain pens that I loaded with some of the amazing Diamine inks from the 2021 Inkvent Calendar, and I took three with me - a blue, brown and yellow.  With these three inks, I sketched and added water to move the ink while I worked.  The deer had bolted before hardly any of their color was on,  but I always paint the animals first in a scene - as they often drift right out of sight! The sketch and color is loose - just like the quick moment I caught them at play! Painting number 3664 in 3664 days and day 16 of the current #stradaeasel challenge.
