West Building

 

It's fun to paint the historic Shawnee Indian Mission with artist friends on such a beautiful day!  With many things on my plate, I still took the time to paint today - and oh how myth soul was rewarded!  After sneaking in a quick workout, getting two paintings finished early in the day is the very best way to start the day.  I am exhilarated after painting, and I feel invincible for the rest of the day, with all things slipping into place.  This is probably an indication to switch up my schedule for the summer.  Now, if I can only get to my posting earlier in each day..... baby steps.....lol. Shawnee Indian Mission West

 

It was a lovely morning to paint the historic Shawnee Indian Mission with artist friends! The Monday Morning Watercolorists were meeting here, so I joined in before dropping two paintings at the Rice Gallery.  I have a few paintings showing in the gift shop here on site, so this have me the perfect opportunity to paint another from a different place.  What a lovely break in my hectic schedule - this will restore me for a little while!  Painting number 4914 in 4914 days. 

North Building

I'm happy this painting of the North Building of the Shawnee Indian Mission has found a new home in Texas! As I make the many preparations for our family Thanksgiving celebration tomorrow, I remember all that I am thankful for.  I think of those no longer with us, the large family we are blessed with, and the little ones to one day come. What a miracle this life is, and I wouldn't trade a minute of it!  Come see all the paintings on display at the Three Springs Market in this historic building!  Painting number 4712 in 4712 days. Teepees at the Indian Mission

 

These three teepees were set up at the Shawnee Indian Mission for the VIP event - and I'm lucky to get to paint them.  The blush of autumn glowed in the afternoon light, as vendors and patrons arrived for the event.  Set up on the west side of the West Building, this was a painting opportunity I couldn't pass up! Besides the three originals, I will also bring some miniature prints priced right for the holiday season! This painting and more will be available at the Three Springs Market opening November 26! This is one of three paintings I will be dropping off at the Shawnee Indian Mission this week for the Three Springs Market!  I have painted here now twice, and i love the historic buildings. Autumn is a special time here, and I'm happy to be a part of the upcoming market.  They will have 1200 trees to sell along with artisan goods, half the proceeds to benefit the Mission  Come support the Shawnee Indian Mission with your purchase bringing November 26. North Building

I spent the whole day painting at the Shawnee Indian Mission for a special event tonight for supporters of the mission.  The weather was perfect, autumn color was blooming and the place was humming with preparations for the evening.  This last painting I finished was the very first to sell tonight, with a portion of the proceeds going back to the mission.  What a lovely way to spend a day.  Painting number 5157 in 5157 days. 

Shawnee Indian Mission - East Building

Not far from where I grew up - I have never been to this Kansas State Historic site!  Timeless in the early morning light, this place feels like the 1800s - there is even a covered wagon in the background in preparation for the upcoming festival.  I am trying out a shiny, new Caran D'Ache Swiss gouache full pan travel set!!!  A few of the colors differ from my norms, but I can still get my colors by mixing.  I'm using a few soft brushes in more of a watercolor way, with plenty of water.  I really like the intensity I'm getting with gouache.  I LOVE using pans and half pans, because I can take them anywhere with a few water brush pens.  I actually took a like container for water, unsure if I could really mix well enough with the brush pens.  I'm at the beginning of this gouache journey - can't wait to see where it leads!  Painting number 4311 in 4311 days.
