Ferris Wheel at Scheels

It was fun to meet inside to sketch the Ferris wheel on this very cold day with artist friends and Mom!  Lunch afterwards at their Cafe was icing on the cake.  Scheels is a great place to shop, with painting subjects ranging from architecture to the grand aquarium and taxidermy.  I brought a sketchbook today, wanting to immerse myself a little deeper in my methods.  Many subjects would have been far easier than this Ferris wheel, but when I think of Scheels, this is what comes to mind.  I've left the upper left corner a little dreamy because I plan to write about my day in that area.  I find it best to sketch on scene and fill in the words later - when I'm not so distracted by family and friends.  I can paint all day while talking to others, but it takes solitude to pull together the right words that really 'paint' my experience.  Painting number 5068 in 5068 days.

Kayaks!

Summer is in full swing, and I will soon be painting watercraft of all kinds!  I love the vibrant color of these kayaks as they stand along the outside walls.  Scouting several angles, I decided to do them all!  At Scheels for our monthly Art Mob event, I was able to squeeze this in right before taking Beau to the vet - again!  A little ink and watercolor was just the therapy I needed after another night of scant sleep.  It's remarkable how a little time spent painting can restore me,  no matter what!  This cheerful painting is number 1987 in 1987 days.

Kayaks!!

Look what I found to paint at Scheels today  - kayaks in bright colors!  Today was Art Mob day at Scheels - which is always a fun place to sketch.  There is such variety in subject matter!  My intention was to sketch the indoor ferris wheel - but I didn't get any further than the airplane and these kayaks!  Those bright colors get me every time!  I am again mixing my inks and watercolors!  An India ink and a soluable one, and my favorite watercolor confection pans.  Perhaps one day I'll add some of my colored inks, too. I LOVE how vibrant they are!  Painting number 1985 in 1985 days.

Red Fox Sketch

Who knew it would be so fun sketching at Scheels in Overland Park for our monthly Art Mob event?  It was so fun - I could hardly stop sketching!   I worked on three ink drawings, filling in with watercolor, and I barely scratched the surface of their subject matter!   The best part of being involved in various art groups is the unique painting opportunities I'm exposed to!  I would never have done this on my own, and now several of us will be going back for wildlife studies!   Painting number 1532 in 1532 days  :)

Running through the Cornfield

Today, I met with the Art Mob at Scheels in Overland Park, for plein air of a different kind!   I was surprised to find SO much to paint!   The animals were wonderfully posed for great compositions - and they stood still for me to paint them!  How often does that happen in the field?  This was my first drawing of the day, and I chose it due to the very lifelike setting.  I relished the opportunity to catch these deer running, and the cornfield was a bonus!  I am really enjoying my new watercolor perfection sets - I  bounced between three of them for today's paintings!  I also tried a new koi water brushpen today, medium tip.  I used it exclusively, and liked the flow.  It may take a little more pressure to get the water out than the 3 pack I got at Hobby Lobby, but it certainly worked well.   Painting number 1478 in 1478 days.
