Autumn in Missouri is really beautiful. Green grass accentuates the golden red hues spreading over the foliage, and balmy temps make it a pleasure to paint in. Only oils will do when I'm pushing for those vibrant colors, and the tactile feel of broach on panel is invigorating. I'm counting my blessings as I paint, and look forward to all the paintings to come. What a wonderful place to capture autumn color - and have refreshment, too. Painting number 4704 in 4704 days.

Stone Hill Sunset
What a treat to find such a gorgeous barn to paint, high on a hill on Hermann! Wandering down the streets in search of autumn color brought me here, and little did i know what I would find. From this spot were multiple paintings in all directions! Stone Hill Winery is absolutely stunning, and i week definitely be back! This painting is now available at Art Works On Main in Owensville! I sure do love painting this part of Missouri! Painting number 5168 in 5168 days.

Stone Hill Autumn
I chose the top of a hill on a cold, windy day for painting Stone Hill Winery for the first time! The view from here is magnificent, and the sun came out to light up the scene after a morning of rain. There are many buildings up here to paint, and an amazing view of all of Hermann. I'll have to return when I can enjoy a glass of wine while I paint! Painting number 5166 in 5166 days, and this one is now showing at Art Works On Main in Owensville, Missouri.

Looking up 1st Street
It was so much fun to return to Hermann to paint on 1st Street. It's been a couple of years since I've been here, and I have never painted this view before. It was very cold this morning, and the first cold snap always hits me hard! With my smart wool base layer and winter coat (warm to -7 degrees) I was warm. Today was a struggle with the wind - and the paintings were a fight indeed. At least the sun came out to spread light upon my scene as a was just beginning to add color. Yay! Autumn at Oak Glenn
This was such an amazing painting day! As soon as I pulled up the road leading to the Oak Glenn Winery, I wanted to paint it! The morning light was streaming through the trees, illuminating the autumn landscape. After a quick look at the top of the hill, I headed back to paint this beautiful stretch of road. I blocked this one in fast because the light was already changing so much. It was a bit of a struggle to find the right color balance as this is my first real fall color paint this year! I do love a good challenge! I'm so happy this painting has a new home tonight! Painting number 3932 in 3932 days.

Hermann Crown Hotel
What a lovely place to stay - this historic Hermann Crown Hotel in the heart of charming Hermann! After delicious burgers and wine tasting, we enjoyed both in the courtyard of the 1837 Cellar Bar to live music - which is performed every night of the month here! It was a fun getaway in a lovely place - and what a great place to organize a plein air event. I would totally come back for that! Showboat Theatre
LOVE sketching the historic Show Boat Theatre in charming Hermann during the Art Walk! This town is so very paintable! As I was painting this theater, a woman talked to me about plein air events, and what it takes to put in a good one. I offered many suggestions, the things I look for when putting them on my schedule, and she was very receptive. I think it would be wonderful to paint these historic streets, in oil and watercolor, saving the memories of this place for generations. Looking up 3rd Street
It was so fun to visit while I sketched the view looking up this historic street! Locals offered suggestions to other great painting spots, and even asked questions about bringing plein air to Hermann. In town for the First Friday Art Walk, Mike joined me for this event. Afterwards, we dined and enjoyed the live music at the 1837 Cellar Bar where we stayed at the Herman Crown Suites. It is so nice to simply walk up to our room after a long, full day of fun. Thanks to all who stopped by and left with a painting! Painting number 4323 in 4323 days.

St Paul Church in the Hill
This lovely church on the hill is visible as one crosses the Missouri River, approaching Hermann, Missouri. Grand on the hill, I had to paint the sweeping scene on the bluff from this angle. I've only been to Hermann a couple of times, and I'm glad to get another chance to visit and paint it! It will be fun to see what the Art Walk is all about! Come see this painting and others from Hermann in front of the historic Hermann Museum this Friday 3:00 to 7:00 for First Friday Art Walk! Painting number 4320 in 4320 days.
