Wennwood Farms Winery

 

I love sketching a country road winding through farms and wineries in rural Missouri!  This farm turned winery is on Old Brick Church Rd in Gasconade County, where cattle and sheep are just a pasture away.  Though I was tempted by the livestock, I opted for this turn in the road, capturing the very essence of this place as one drives by.  I intended to add color, but when the drawing was finished, it said all I wanted to say in vintage black and white.  Painting number 5169 in 5169 days. 

Beyond the Garden 2024

 

I am so honored this painting of the Overland Park Arboretum was commissioned by the City of Overland Park.  This painting will be carried to Germany and given as a gift to their Sister City, Bietigheim-Bissingen, where it will hang.  The arboretum is a crowning jewel in Overland Park, and the recent addition of the Long Building (on the hill) made this painting the perfect gift.  I'm so happy they reached out to me while I was traveling in Marblehead,Ohio.  I was strolling the bank of Lake Erie when I got the call.  What a lovely honor this is!  Painting number 5132 in 5132 days. 

Red Barn Reflections

 

It feels like stepping back in time to paint the vintage farms of rural Van Buren County, Iowa!  The barn and silo reflecting on that water was irresistible, and it was my first paint upon arriving at this place.  Battling the bugs to get it done - it was worth every minute of it!  Who knew it would only be the beginning of "bug week"?  Every day is a plein air adventure - and cougars and elk would be next up for wildlife sightings!  I love getting to paint these special places in the heartland! New Melle Afternoon

This was my first drawing in New Melle this afternoon, and I sat on the sidewalk to get this particular vantage point!  With rain threatening, I looked for the closest cover, which was across the street in front of the Post Office.  As soon as I finished getting in all the details, I tucked it into a plastic bag to protect it, moving directly to another painting.  It was not until this was walking out the door that I realized I didn't get a photo of it on site!  Thank goodness I caught this happy new owner in the nick of time!  Painting number 2308 in 2308 days.
